Arthur Cox emerged as Northern Ireland’s highest-ranked law firm in October 2014, as The Legal 500 published its 2015 rankings. In preparing this year’s Northern Ireland rankings, The Legal 500 made contact with the province’s leading businesses across a wide range of sectors – part of a global exercise where it gathers feedback from 250,000 in-house lawyers and independently assesses information on corporate deals.
The resulting tables rank Northern Ireland’s major law firms across a number of defined practice areas, awarding highly-coveted ‘Top-tier’ recommendations for elite firms, and still-prized recommendations. Northern Ireland’s firms between them took an impressive 127 recommendations in the new list, 53 of which were in the top tier.
Belfast firm Arthur Cox was most favoured, gaining 12 ‘Top-tier’ recommendations.
Welcoming the results, Arthur Cox Managing Partner for Northern Ireland, Alan Taylor, said “There’s no doubting the value of this research for Northern Ireland on an international stage, and it is fantastic to see the recognition that ‘Brand Northern Ireland’ is building in the US and elsewhere. “There is an international buzz around the work being done by Invest NI, Northern Ireland Screen, the NI Tourist Board and others – so it is wonderful to be able to take independent rankings from The Legal 500 to underline the world-class legal support that multi-nationals can call upon here in Belfast.”
In a statement on its website, Legal 500’s Publishing Director, David Burgess, said, “The only way a law firm can get into our ranking tables and commentary is on merit alone – if our researchers think it is good enough for inclusion. It is not possible for a firm to buy its way into the editorial.”
